Cheap Festool OF 1400 EQ Router Review
Having never purchased a Festool Before, I was very torn between this machine and some other routers available at reduced prices. It finally came to the quality and accuracy for me and so I "made the leap" with the EQ of 1400. Let me start by saying that it is a very good quality and well designed machine that is evident from the moment the package is opened. I really like the depth adjustment of precision that was one of my main reasons for this selection. I wassurprised at the smoothness of the machine while running. What stunned me was my run-outs or the absence of the Assembly Collet. I made a comparison with the same quarter "solid carbide bit to my router and plunge router old. The party really shocking is that I cut the slot with the 1400 measure .250" with my stirrups line - the same as the diameter of the cutter. Housing that I cut with my old router plunge, measured using the same cutter 0258 ", which I found quiteTypical of my experience with that machine. Having an occupation as a designer of machines I know that this level of accuracy is not cheap.
other thoughts. collecting dust when cutting a slot or working edge of the stage is very good. Visibility in the use of the shroud of dust clear, understandably reduced. Fortunately, the base has a few outlet center. I like the Plug-It cord that disconnects the handle to make changes little safer and faster. The adapter pocket for snap-in modelGuides worked very well too. When installed model guides are centered and have zero radial clearance.
Negative - I found the handle grip and round a bit difficult at first, but he feels more comfortable as I used to. I find the twisting action required to lock the height of my biggest challenge - it is a bit against nature for me to have used a standard D handle unit with a share plunge the locking finger for many years. Again, this is something that I'm getting used to.
In summary, I would say that this is certainly not a tool for beginners as many finer points and attributes are overlooked. Similarly, if the precision that this machine is not required, there are truck loads of cheaper units out there. If however you can use this machine offers precision and can enjoy its many thoughtful features, I recommend it over other machines.
